Love says Cobain would have found GH5 “really funny”, still suing

Looks like the lawsuit between Activision and pissed-off rockers over Guitar Hero 5/Band Hero is still on the docket, if Courtney Love’s newest comments are any indication.

According to an interview with NME Magazine, Love says her late-husband Kurt Cobain would have been amused over “singing a Spice Girls song” in Band Hero, which is why she’s a bit conflicted over the lawsuit.

Still, she says that someone has to stand up for others in the music biz, so she is hopping on the white horse with the rest.

“What pisses me off the most about it, is I think Kurt would be fine with having five Kurt Cobains singing the song Wannabe, like, ‘Tell me what you want, what you really really want’, she told the mag (via Contact Music). “I think he’d find that really funny, but at the same time it’s gross what they did.

Gwen (Stefani) started the lawsuit. I have really good lawyers now and will join that lawsuit. There was this gray area and they fucked the lot of us. They didn’t fuck Jack White, but they fucked Gwen, fucked Johnny Cash and fucked Kurt… It’s just gross.

“This is the rock ‘n’ roll business, this is what people do. They are sleazy [and] they do sleazy things.”

Former Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic also felt the Cobain bit was in bad taste, and even Jon Bon Jovi agreed, telling the BBC that he personally “passed” on being included in either title.

The shit storm all started back in September, when Love when on a rant fueled Twitter rampage against Activision on her now-canceled account, saying she was going to “sue the shit” out of the publisher – who responded citing it had obtained the “necessary rights” to use Cobain’s iconic image.

When we spoke with Love’s lawyer regarding her claims, he confirmed that there would indeed be legal action taken if Activision did not prohibit users of the game from using Cobain’s image to sing the songs of others.

Regarding the suit filed by No Doubt that Love plans to join, Activision in turn filed a countersuit against Gwen’s band, alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment.

Don’t expect a conclusion to this any time soon, kiddos.
