Ignition Entertainment has revealed the back story, setting, and weapons for its upcoming multiplayer FPS Blacklight: Tango Down, currently in development at Zombie Studios.
The Unreal Engine 3-powered game is set in the near future and revolves around a special-ops group called Blacklight, which is the Secretary of Defense’s personal team comprised of Tier One Assets.
Soldiers are operators recruited from Delta, SEAL, Ranger, and and CIA MSP divisions, and then trained specifically to deal with ambiguous and unstructured situations.
Story: In the game, the universe has been overtaken by technological progress which has created an environment into dark a dark and dangerous place. A viral epidemic has ravaged society and the military has lost control of the virus, creating a devastating constraint on the globe and infecting folks with “Q-Fever” or SIV (Sentient Insanity Virus) and with those now infected called SIVs. The virus destroys a person’s humanity, making them aggressive and impervious to pain.
According to Ignition, the game is “set in a universe that is based in Science Fact, not Science Fiction” with future combat technologies and weapons featured in the game being based on military developments of today, even if they only exist in the laboratory or are nothing more than conceptual design.
Weapons in the game include new future weapons and support systems, like EMP grenades that disable opponents’ electronic visors, Digi-Grenades that distort the optics of enemies, reactive body armor, customizable weapons, and the “Hyper Reality Visor”. This is a head piece that uses an electronic pulse and nearby electro-magnetic fields to render the world in a new way, allowing soldiers to see what is otherwise invisible.
Blacklight is set for release on PC, PSN and XBLA this summer. You can check out the trailer for it here.
