Activision handed out some screens for Transformers: The War for Cybertron at GDC yesterday, and you can check ’em out below the break along with some more information on the game.
Basically, you are seeing exactly what we got to see. Optimus and his team fighting it out against Megatron and his Decepticons for control of the planet Cybertron – the biggest Transformer of them all. It sort of looks like the Death Star from a distance, and a mechanical Blade Runner on the surface.
The third-person action game allows you to choose between three characters in their pre-earth forms before the start of each level- Optimus (before he became Prime) is one of course. Once you choose, you have two weapons at all times with loads of grenades to throw around at enemies.
Each character can shift into his vehicle form at any point, be it a jet, tank, or car. Some quests will require you to do this, some won’t, and since you are not restricted from transforming- it happens relatively fast.
Switching from a tank-type vehicle back into a robot and vice versa will not hinder you during battle – so transform as often as you like. At one point, you merge with a turret and actually become the turret- which looked very cool.
The boss battles are rather intense, with the one we saw being a base that turns into this massive walking, blasting, enemy on scale with the biggest boss in God of War.
Transformers: The War for Cybertron has three-player online co-op, and while High Moon couldn’t talk about it yesterday – it does have multiplayer, so expect more on that soon.
The game was created using Unreal 3, and it definitely has a bit of a Gears 2 look to it – only with Hasbro bots shooting each other.
Game’s out for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 later in the year.
