Take-Two CEO Ben Feder has told MCV that unit sales of GTA: Chinatown Wars in the US “represented nearly 50 percent of the unit sales of all M-rated DS titles in the history of the platform.”
This makes the sales of the other M-rated games on DS account for the other 50 percent, which according to Joystiq, are: Dementium: The Ward, Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, Ultimate Mortal Kombat, C.O.R.E., Theresia, Touch the Dead.
However, Feder also admitted that sales of Chinatown Wars were not what the company had hoped for, and laid part of the blame on piracy.
“Piracy is a real and present danger for our industry and must be addressed, especially in the handheld market,” he said to MCV. “The commercial performance of Chinatown Wars has certainly suffered at the hands of piracy.”
Despite this, NOA said back in January Take-Two should continue to market the game in an effort to get the game in front of “new consumers”.
Chinatown Wars was released for iPhone earlier this year, and on PSP last fall.
