You're not going to believe this one.
Carley Helm was headed home to Milwaukee after visiting her father in Atlanta when the s*&t hit the fan. Or rather the turtle hit the fan.
The plane was taxiing down the runway when a stewardess notice that Carly had her pet turtle with her. That's a big problem apparently. Dogs, cats and birds can fly on planes but not turtles. The Center For Disease Control says that some turtles can carry salmonella bacteria so essentially turtles are on the "do not fly" list. Who knew? Osama Bin Laden and Turtles have a lot in common.
"Would you like red or white wine with your... what is that? A turtle? Oh my God!!!! Call the FAA!!!"
Carley had the tiny 2-inch turtle in a carrier case and everything. But it didn't matter.
The flight attendants freaked out and the pilot turned the plane around and went back to the gate.
Then the worst happend.
The airport personnel told 10-year-old Carley that she would have to "get rid" of the turtle, and suggested that she throw her tiny pet away if she wanted to ride on the plane... in the TRASH!
Carley didn't know what to do. She was freaked out and scared, so she did as she was told and tearfully threw her beloved pet in the trash and boarded the plane.
But never fear! A kindly airport employee rescued the tiny turtle, and took it home. Once the scandal broke, the airline did the right thing and flew the turtle (in the baggage compartment) back to Carley in Milwaukee where they plan on living happily ever after.
