Police have been looking for 19-year-old Colton Harris-Moore for two years now. He started a crime spree at 17, stealing countless cars, airplanes and breaking into businesses. He eluded police for so long by living like an animal in the woods. His legend grew through the Pacific Northwest, and after his capture on Sunday, he is now a world wide celebrity.
He was caught in the Bahamas after leading cops on a high speed boat chase. How do you think he got to the Bahamas? In an airplane that he stole in Indiana. Are you kidding me? Of course he did.
His crime spree covered several states and three Countries. He has never taken a flying class. He taught himself how to fly airplanes, just so that he could steal them and take them on joy rides.
I can't figure out how to tune my guitar, and this guy taught himself to fly a friggin' plane? I mean it's wrong to steal, but that's kind of amazing. They call him the barefoot-bandit because he never wears shoes... he wasn't even wearing any when they arrested him.
When news broke Sunday of his arrest the press went crazy. People seem to think of this guy as more of a modern day Jessie James, as opposed to a common criminal.
People have flocked to Colton's various Facebook fan pages to wish him well, and cheer him on. His fan pages have grown by over 85,000 followers since his arrest on Sunday. He's become a huge celebrity over night. He's as popular as that chick that tried to sail around the world.
Colton's mother (who has recently hired a fancy schmancy Seattle entertainment lawyer to represent herself), told reporters that she was proud of her son for teaching himself how to fly, but that she was ultimately glad that he was finally arrested. She also told reporters that she loves her son and can't wait to see him. Even his mom is a fan!
When taken into custoday police found a stolen camera on him, Colton had taken this photo of himself.
