Japanese hardware charts – PS3 closes on Wii’s year-to-date total

Keep watching. If current trends continue, PS3 is about to become to biggest selling under-TV console in Japan so far this year.

Following a strong turn by PS3 in Japan last week, the Sony machine now looks set to move passed Wii’s Japanese total for the year in September: PS3 has now sold 949,907 in Japan in 2010 compared to Wii’s 968,413.

PS3 sold just under 30,000 in the country last week, while PSP scooped 27k’s worth of sales.

DS was the overall weekly winner again, with over 45,000 units moved.
