Microsoft has told Kotaku that Kinect does not support sign language, despite reports to the contrary over the weekend.
A patent for the device emerged last weekend, showing sign language support for the camera.
But MS said it wouldn’t be included, with sources saying it wasn’t compatible with the motion tech’s latest hardware.
“We are excited about the potential of Kinect and its potential to impact gaming and entertainment,” said an MS rep.
“Microsoft files lots of patent applications to protect our intellectual property, not all of which are brought to market right away. Kinect that is shipping this holiday will not support sign language.”
Kinect launches on November 4 in the US, with a European release date expected to be announced on Tuesday at Microsoft’s gamescom press conference in Germany.
Get the timing for that here.
