New Super Mario Bros. DS may have spent over three years on the UK charts, but another game has it beaten.
That game is the original Rayman.
It spent over five years (261 weeks) on the top 40 all-formats chart, according to Chart-track.
Team17’s Worms came in next, with 239-weeks spent.
Other games occupying the UK charts the most since 1996 include:
- Grand Theft Auto – 178 weeks
- Theme Park – 172 weeks
- Tomb Raider 2 – 167 weeks
- The Sims 2 – 160 weeks
- Wii Play – 159 weeks
- The Simpsons: Hit & Run – 156 weeks
The record for weeks spent at number one, though, goes to Who Wants to be a Millionaire? with 18 weeks.
Wii Fit came in second with 16 weeks in the top position, followed by FIFA Soccer ’96 and FIFA – Road to the World Cup ’98 tying at third with 11 weeks.
Fourth place, with 10 weeks tied on the charts, went to seven games: GTA: Vice City, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Tomb Raider, FIFA ’07, Pokemon Yellow, Medal of Honor: Frontline and Need for Speed: Underground 2.
Fifth, with 9 weeks spent, saw FIFA 2000, V-Rally and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 tying.
What about the games lingering the longest in the top 20? Well, Chart-Track handed those numbers out too:
