Pfft. Reviving Duke Nukem Forever? Please. That’s only how Gearbox starts off its weekend.

During what was essentially a State of the Gearbox address, the developer touched on all of its key franchises. First up, more Borderlands DLC! Better still, it’s free. So, what kind of bang are you getting for your no-buck? Well, the update will boost the game’s level cap up to 69 and rebalance the whole shebang accordingly – just in time for Claptrap’s Revolution on September 28.

On the Brothers in Arms front, Gearbox definitely has something cooking, but if you’re expecting a surprise blowout, keep walking.

“We’ve got a lot of action right now, but we’re not ready quite yet to bring it out. We want to make sure we know we’ve got it right before we tell you what we’re doing,” said Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford.

“We’ll deal with Baker and his men in future games for sure. But we also may do some other things that maybe treat the game in some different ways and take some different directions,” Gearbox co-founder Brian Martel chimed in.

Different directions? That’s just cryptic enough that it could be anything! We, however, choose to jump to the most logical conclusion: zombies. After all, what else could “Z-Day” be? It just makes so much sense.

Thanks, Joystiq.
