Meat, Maggots, and Blackface at MTV's VMAs!

Lisa Roth

Alright, so the VMAs were Sunday, but everyone is still talking about a couple of things that happened there, because they were just too much! Lady Gaga wore an all meat dress, and Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas showed up in blackface for his performance before the show.

The people over at PETA certainly had a few things to say about Lady Gaga's all raw meat outfit. Tmz reports: "A rep for the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals tells us that Gaga "has a hard time being 'over the top,' and wearing a dress made from cuts of dead cows is offensive enough to bring comment."

But the rep notes that if the dress was made from actual meat -- and not the fake stuff  -- it wouldn't take long to go sour ... saying, "After time spent under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh that it is and likely be crawling in maggots."

Maggots!?!? MAGGOTS? That's just beyond disgusting. I can't even finish typing right now. MAGGOTS.

Meanwhile, Will.I.Am from the Black Eyed Peas thought it would be neat to show up and perform in blackface. Remember blackface from racism?

Will defended himself after fans slammed the rapper over Twitter for his black-on-black pre-show costume for his performance with Nicki Minaj.

Will tweeted, "1st. just because I where all black including head mask as expression and emphasize my outfit, it shouldn't be looked at as racial..." he tweeted back. "Let go of the past. there are far more important things 2 bark about. (Jobs, health, education) not a black man wearing all black everything." I can let go of the past, but I can't let go of Will's horrible spelling. "just because I where all black" - It's "wear" Will.

Will continued to tweet a few hours later, defending his Blaquaman costume.

"Are you guys serious? my outfit set "black people back 100 yrs" choose your twits wisely. no education sets people back, no jobs, bad health," he wrote.

Sure Will, but seriously? All black face? You looked gross, not artsy, and where was the "artsiness" in this choice? If anything it just looked icky. At worst, blackface.

Either way, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE PEOPLE?!? Tell us what you think in the comments! Did they go too far? Or did you think they looked cool?
