Those who have been looking forward to Age of Empires Online will be pleased to know the game has gone into closed beta.

It’s for both the PC and XBL versions through Microsoft Connect, and you must be to register, and in the North American or European region.

You must also have a gamertag that connects to Xbox Live and Games for Windows Live with a Silver or Gold account with an updated version of the XBL or GFWL client.

Here’s what the game is all about:

Whether you’re conquering enemy civilizations, teaming up with your neighbors to beat back the barbarian hordes, or building a thriving economy where your citizens live in the lap of luxury, you’ll be the guiding spirit in the evolution of an ancient civilization.
