Oh boy, here we go again.
Pointed ears were first made famous by Spock on the TV show Star Trek, but more and more teens are resporting to the medical sculpting of their ears to look like "Spock" or an "Elf" as a way of looking unique and standing out in a crowd.
The number of teens turning to ear sculpting is alarming. What use to be a rare procedure, is now being offered all over the world, though it's most popular in western cultures.
People actually believe that ear sculpting can enhance the music listening experience, and is gaining popularity in the New York music scene.
The procedure only takes a few hours. The ear is cut and reshaped under local anesthesia, sewn into place and bandaged. The bandages come off in a week, the stitches come out in about 2 weeks (maybe a month), and what's left is a pointed ear that makes you look like you're from another planet... or on your way to a Star Trek convention.
It will cost you anywhere between $2,000 and $7,000 to have this done, depending on the surgeon you go to. My advice, if you're going to do this, is NOT to go to the bargain basement cheapest place to have it done. When it comes to body modification, you want nothing but the best.
Just like with tattoos, this procedure is PERMANENT. I mean, you can get it reversed... but it's not easy, and your ear will never look the same as it use to again.
It use to be that parents had to worry about their kids getting their ears pierced at the mall... now parents are having to deal with this?
You'll have to be at least 18 years old, or get your parents permission to get this done. What parent in their right mind would give permission for their kid to get this done, is beyond me.
I think we should all just stick to the tramp stamp and leave the Elf ears to the Elves.
What are your thoughts on ear sculpting?
