When Peter Molyneux mentioned the possibility of Kinect mini-games being added to Fable III a while back, throwing tomatoes at folks and building statues never crossed our minds.
At least those were the two possible mini-games mentioned at a Microsoft showcase in New York this week.
According to Kotaku which was present for the showcase, neither mini-game was shown nor described further and both never made it into the final product.
Back in August, Molyneux said Kinect support would not be included with Fable III at launch but might be patched in later on, and if Lionhead were to create a Fable Kinect game, it would have to be “brilliant” and not “gimmicky”.
“We could have done some trivial, gimmicky thing for Fable, some side, gimmicky thing, but I don’t think it’s the right thing,” he told VG247 during gamescom. “If we’re going to do something with Kinect on Fable it should be brilliant. It should be as good as it can be.
“The Fable experience through a controller that we fully understand, takes at least two years. When you’ve invented something that’s as new and different as Kinect, it’s going to take a bit longer than six months.”
Likely that’s the reason there’s no longer tomato tossing mini-games. It just wasn’t brilliant enough.
Fable III will hit the market on October 26 in the US and October 29 in the UK.
