Welcome to the first in a brand new totally original weekly feature for VG247. Each week I’m going to be bringing you a selection of the finest gaming discounts various retailers are offering as they fight for access to your wallets. For regularly updated video game deals, head to SavyGamer.co.uk.
Get this week’s selection after the break.
- Pro Evolution Soccer 2011, Xbox 360/PS3 – £22.99 delivered.
This year’s entry in the long-running series of pong clones has been reduced at record speed. Normally you’d expect to wait up to six months for this kind of price drop, but it’s not even been out a month and GAME has slashed the price. Perhaps it’s in response to it failing to topple FIFA in the sales league table. There’s a demo available on all good Xbox Lives and PSNs, so you can put it though it’s paces before adding it to your squad. At time of writing CEX is even offering £32 exchange or £30 cash for it, and Gamestation will match that to £33, so if you hate it you’ll be able to shift it pretty easily, and at a profit. Metacritic page here.
- Super Scribblenauts, DS – £17.99 delivered.
Have the original’s control issues been sorted out? Does the best strategy still always involve a rope and a helicopter? Can I make a flying robotic hippopotamus? Sadly, I don’t know the answer to any of these questions yet, but if you want to find out for yourself, then this pre-order price is towards the lower end of what you’d hope to pay for new DS releases. The game’s out on Friday, and you can see some example of adjectives in action here.
- Gears of War 2, Xbox 360 – £4.99 delivered.
If you missed this first time around, a fiver is a great price for Epic’s definitely-not-homoerotic manshooter. The campaign is a blast, particularly in local co-op split-screen, and the boring bits where Marcus and the gang slow down and put their fingers in their ears are now skippable. When you’re done with it, CEX is offering a £5 trade in, and Gamestation will match that to £6. Review round-up here.
- Diablo III, PC/Mac – £22.97 delivered.
There’s been a huge blowout of fresh info about the hotly anticipated follow up to Blizzard’s click and loot ’em up just come out of Blizzcon, and you can catch up on it all here. Considering that the price of Starcraft II has been pretty stubborn to dip below the magic £30 mark, it’s surprising to see D3 available so cheap as a pre-order. If you see it cheaper elsewhere, or change your mind, you can always cancel it, and you won’t get charged until they ship it to you anyway, so if you’re even slightly tempted, I’d say go for it. How about a release date Blizzard?
Deal of the week
- Bioshock 2 & inFamous, PS3 – £15 delivered.
With a combined metascore of 173, you’re getting a lot of high quality game for your money here. I’d say Bioshock 2 was the lesser of the two romps through Rapture, but it had some great moments, and you get to drill dudes in the face. I bLoody lOved inFamous, though. The movement and animation is some of the best I’ve seen in any open-world game, and Cole’s acrobatic jumping, climbing and jetpack hands make the city a joy to navigate. Sucker Punch gave a presentation on the sequel at the start of the month, and you can hear me inappropriately shout “Yeah!” at the mention of Rocket: Robot on wheels for the N64.
Also of note:
- Walkers is giving away single use codes for 10 percent off at Zavvi and The Hut, and you can get as many as you want. Instructions here.
- You’ve got the rest of the week to capitalise on the “free 800 MS points when you spend 2,400 points in October” deal. There was some confusion as to whether the currently discounted new release Super Meat Boy was included, but Microsoft confirmed it would be. Cheapest place for MS points right now is £14.34 at The Hut using the above coupon.
- Xbox 360 Elite Console – £89.99 delivered. It’s preowned, and the old model, but it does come with 12 months warranty.
Remember to keep your eye’s on SavyGamer.co.uk for gaming discounts throughout the week, and you can hassle me on twitter if there’s ever a specific game you’re after for cheap.
