Psychic Octopus Didn't See It Coming

C.J. Arabia

I've got some sad news guys.

Paul... the psychic octopus ... is dead.

Paul became internationally famous for correctly predicting the winner of Germany's seven matches at the 2010 World Cup, as well as the final. He died yesterday in his tank of natural causes. He was about 2 1/2 years old which is about as long as your average octopus lives, so it's not like we didn't know it was coming... but what nobody could have predicted was the scandal that has errupted around his death.

It seems that a Chinese film-maker named Jiang Xiao has accused the Germans of secretly replacing the underwater oracle with a body double. Xiao believes that Paul actually died THREE MONTHS AGO. That would be 2 days before the final, in which Paul once again correctely called the winner and became the most famous octopus in history. Jaing is positive that the Germans, embarassed at the scandal of Paul's passing, replaced him with another octopus who actually predicted the final.

"Octopuses all look the same," she said when asked how staff at Oberhausen Sea Life Aquarium could have got away with such a switch. "It is impossible to tell the difference."

Wait! What? Of' course you could tell the difference... I mean octopi are like snowflakes, no two are the exact same. We at Smosh obtained these photos of Paul. The first picture is of Paul, three days before predicting he final...

This second photo is of Paul after Xiao thinks he was replaced. You decide if you can tell the difference.

Hold the phone! I think Xiang might be on to something.
