Harmonix and MTV Games has announced that as of next week, the list of downloadable songs in the Rock Band library will  reach the 2,000 mark with the addition of The Jimi Hendrix Experience album, Are You Experienced.

The milestone will be met with the release of the song Are You Experienced? come October 12.

“The success of our song downloads has afforded us the opportunity to approach Rock Band as an interactive music platform and reshape the way gamers think of expansion content,” said Paul DeGooyer, senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Networks.

“Our commitment to weekly releases, disc export, forward compatibility of downloads and the launch of the Rock Band Network were milestones in the development of Rock Band’s vibrant digital business. Now, with the release of our 2,000th song, we are reaffirming our commitment to present new music every week – and with the new features in Rock Band 3, there will be more ways than ever to experience it.”

The full debut album from the left-handed genius and his band goes on sale next week, and is a mixture of both live and studio tracks.

Track listings and pricing will be made available next week for PS3, Wii, and Xbox 360.

Hendrix’s Crosstown Traffic will also be appearing on the Rock Band 3 disc when it’s released on October 26 and 29 in the US and UK, respectively, while Axis: Bold as Love with Valleys of Neptune was released for Rock band back in March.

To date, Rock Band users have downloaded more than 75 million songs from the Rock Band Music Store, and the Rock Band Network Music Store.
