Valve: No plans for Steam trade-in system

Valve has said it has no plans to implement a trade-in system on Steam.

Earlier this week, Pachter predicted to NowGamer Valve was “supposedly” going to allow customers to “trade and exchange” licenses via a free-based format in Steam.

However, Valve marketing head Doug Lombardi told Eurogamer the possibility was “untrue” and he didn’t know “what else there is to say” on the matter.

Eurogamer also spoke with Pachter, who told the site he agrees with Lombardi.

“I saw the headlines, and honestly don’t remember saying that Steam would sponsor trade-ins,” he said. “I can only surmise that the reporter asked the question that way (‘Steam is rumored to be considering taking digital trade-ins’) and asked me what I thought. I have NOT heard this from anybody, and think it had to be the way the question was phrased.

“For the record, I don’t know anything about Steam’s plans to sponsor credits for games purchased in the past. Mr. Lombardi is entirely accurate that I have not spoken to anyone at Valve about this, and I did not hear anything from anybody other than from the reporter who interviewed me.”

So. No Steam trade-ins for you. Over and out.

Still, it was a nice thought while it lasted.
