On the day Black Ops launched, Treyarch’s community manager Josh Olin tweeted the game had over one million players online through Xbox Live.

Last night, Major Nelson tweeted the exact figures, and they’re a bit shocking.

According to two separate tweets, over 2.6 million uniques were logged day one on XBL for Black Ops, and by the end of launch day, over 5.9 million multiplayer hours were logged.

Here’s the tweets:

More than 2.6 million unique gamers played #CODBlackOPS in one day on November 9.

More than 5.9 million multiplayer hours were logged playing by the end of launch day, November 9.

While those are some amazing stats, it’s unsurprising considering two days after launch it was announced the game beat Modern Warfare 2’s opening day sales to become the world’s largest ever entertainment launch with $360 million in revenue in the UK and North America alone.

During its first day on the market the game sold through approximately 5.6 million copies in North America and the United Kingdom, as compared to 4.7 million copies of Modern Warfare 2. In its first five days at market, it grossed $650 million.

We bet it’s already reached a billion by now. Amazing.
