Bioshock 2 [Collector’s Edition], PS3 – £12.85 delivered
This is a rather swish Collector’s Edition. It comes with: BioShock orchestral score 12″ vinyl LP, BioShock 2 orchestral score CD, 3 vintage Rapture advertisement posters and 164-page BioShock 2 hardback artbook. It’s all packaged up in a pretty box too.
You could get the regular version for £7.99 delivered, but I’d say these substantial bonus gubbins are probably worth the £4.86 difference.
As for the game, I reckon I’m about halfway through it, and it is definitely enjoyable, even if it’s lost a lot of the otherworldly feeling of the original. I wonder if the inhabitants of Columbia will be as disorganised as those of Rapture when it comes to leaving their audio diaries strewn all over the place. Metacritic page here.
Sonic Colours, Wii – £17.94 delivered (Even less if you’ve still got a Walker’s coupon left over.)
I’m sorry. As much as I want to love you, you’ve hurt me too many times, and my heart can’t take it any more. I heard that you’ve cleaned up your act, and I’m happy for you that you’ve gotten generally favourable reviews, but it’s over between you and me.
We’re finished. I’ve got nothing left to give.
I’m moving on without you, and I suggest you try to move on without me, it’s for the best for both of us. I’ll always remember the time we stormed Launch Base Zone together. XxX
World of Goo, PC/Mac – £1.75
The best game ever since the last best game ever. Bursting with creativity and wonderful puzzles, the only possible reason to not buy this is because you already have it, and even then you should be buying it for all of your friends, and then all of your friends’ friends.
It’s a game about getting stuff from A to B. The stuff in question is goo. It starts off fairly simply, but by the end you’ll be constructing elaborate structures, traversing huge gaps, and dozens of other hugely inventive puzzles.
I’m eager to see whatever the bafflingly talented 2Dboy put out next, be it a gooey sequel or something else entirely. Metacritic page here.
DiRT 2, Xbox 360 – £4.97 delivered
The biggest success of this rally racer is the driving experience. Bollocks to those more sterile racers I say, this is about thundering over bumpy rally tracks as fast as you can, barely managing to keep on the track.
In Dirt 2, particularly in the fantastic cockpit view, you feel every bump in the track, and when you crash you know about it. The menus are rather fancy too.
I say turn off the HUD, and throw caution to the wind, and you’ll enjoy this even more. Metacritic page here.
Deal of the week Indie Puzzle Pack, PC – £3.49
I can personally vouch for Cogs, Shatter and Tidalis all being worth your time.
Cogs is a beautiful tile puzzle game unlike any other, it’s whirs and clunks like a machine, and you get to make a train or a hot air balloon. Shatter is Breakout, but a million times better. It’s got bright lights, a wonderful pumping soundtrack, and some fantastic boss fights. Tidalis is a nautically themed match 3 puzzle game with far more depth than it might appear on the surface.
Three excellent games, and two unknowns for £3.49 is a phenomenal deal. You’ve got til 6pm UK time to get these at this price, so be quick.
