It’s Monday, so that means one thing. Here’s the second dose of my weekly selection of discounted video games. Available are low prices on a couple of high profile new releases, some excellent deals on consoles and a lovely special edition for cheap. Remember to visit SavyGamer.co.uk for updates on cheap games throughout the week.
The deals are conveniently located after the break.
You’ll be needing one of these coupons to get this price.
There’s lots of talk about how the new plastic instruments and pro mode stuff makes RB3 the best in the series so far, but even if it was just the same game again, this would be an excellent track pack. The Smiths, At the Drive-In, The Flaming Lips, Blondie, The Cure, Jimi Hendrix, Echo & the Bunnymen, Bob Marley & the Wailers and That Guy from Labyrinth are all excellent choices for you to mock-rock out to in your living room.
CEX are offering £21 (PS3) and £16 (360) trade in for Rock Band 2, so Gamestation should pricematch that to £22 and £16 respectively. So why not pay the 800 MS points/£9.99 on PSN to transfer the songs from RB2 to your hard drive, then trade the game in for mad profit.
Cautionary note: Lots of Zavvi customers (including myself) have been complaining of delayed orders, charging way before items have shipped, and other such customer service issues. You can see the moaning masses on the twitter hashtag #ZavviFail. Perhaps order it elsewhere if you want it urgently. Review roundup here.
- Demon’s Souls [Black Phantom Edition], PS3 – £22.82 delivered [Ex rental]
Now this game is ex rental, so it won’t be new and sealed, but when Boomerang rent games out, they just give out the disc, the packaging and extras will be kept pristine in storage. I’ve ordered from them in the past and everything I’ve received has been in as new condition, and not a single scratch on the disc.
I’ve still not been able to sink my teeth into the game proper yet, I’m still struggling to make it to the end of the first area, so I reckon it’s deserving of the reputation it has for being super duper hard. Very pretty though. Metacritic page here.
- ModNation Racers, PS3 – £19.99 delivered
I’ve had my eye on this for a while, but it’s never before dipped bellow £20. Any fans out there? I enjoyed the demo, but without full access to the customization features, it’s hard to know how much variety to expect from the user created levels. Metacritic page here.
Cheap consoles!
All the cheap consoles are out to play today. If you’re after a PS3, you can currently get the old 60Gb model with PS2 backwards compatibility for just £169.99 delivered. It’s preowned, but comes with a 12 month warranty, and that’s cheaper than they go for on eBay by a fair margin.
There’s two great offers on 360 available too, either a prowned 60Gb model for £68.99 delivered (apply coupon “MVCXmas10”). These all have HDMI outs, and will have been manufactured in September 2008 at the earliest, so you might still have some of the 3 year RROD/E73 warranty in addition to 12 months warranty from the retailer.
Or if you’d like a new 360, you can get the shiny new 250Gb model, Crackdown 2, Alan Wake and a choice of another new release (Fallout: New Vegas, FIFA 2011, Medal of Honor [Limited Edition], HAWX 2, Ruse, Vanquish or The Sims 3) for £209 delivered. Details here.
Finally, the newly released red version of Nintendo’s little box of fun is available for just £149 at Asda. You can reserve it to collect in store here, or get it delivered for another fiver. It comes with a Wii Remote Plus, NSMB and Wii Sports.
Deal of the week:
I bloody loved Vanquish, but I’d have a hard time recommending it at full price. My total game time was 5 hours 22 minutes, which doesn’t include cut scenes or times I died, and whilst I enjoyed every second of that, I don’t feel hugely compelled to play it again any time soon.
Still, Play.com are giving you Bayonetta for free, and only charging £29.99 for Vanquish, so if you’ve not yet played Platinum Games’ other brilliant insane violence ’em up, then this is a fantastic deal. At time of writing, CEX are giving £30 trade in for Vanquish, and Gamestation should pricematch that to £31. You could buy it, beat it really quickly, and effectively get Bayonetta for totally free.
If you want to be patient though, I imagine Vanquish will be dropping in price pretty quickly, since it only just managed to break 10k sales in its first week. Vanquish review round up here.
Also of note:
- Far Cry 2, PC‚ £2.86 delivered. You can also get £1 store credit if you sign up to their TextTo service, making it just £1.86 (cheers Jaffo for the heads up on that).
- Kudos 2, PC/Mac, £2.94. Apply coupon “BLLY000ZF”
- Breath of Fire 3, PSP, £6.85 delivered
