Only-Children Happier Than Other Kids

C.J. Arabia

Wow, a sruvey was recently conducted in England and the results were a little bit shocking to me. It turns out that only-children are happier than kids who have siblings...

Not only that, but the more siblings you have, the less happy you are.

These children=consumed by sadness

They surveyed 2500 British young people and found that happiness "declined the more siblings were in the household."

31% of the kids in the survey said that they were "hit, kicked or pushed" by a sibling regularly.

Ginger FIGHT!

Almost 1/3 of the teens in the control group claimed that their siblings would call them “nasty names” and 18% said their belongings or personal property had been literally taken away from them by a bullying sibling.

In total, 54% of siblings said they had been involved in some form of bullying.

So why are only-children happier? Well, it could be because they get more attention from their parents and don't have to compete for praise and assistance.

Only-child Natalie Portman once told Rolling Stone magazine, “I would never have been an actress if I weren’t an only child because my parents would never have let me be the star of the family at the expense of another child.” So maybe there is something to this only-child thing.

Here are some more famous only-children:

Tiger Woods

Daniel Radcliffe

Lance Armstrong

Chelsea Clinton

Frank Sinatra

Christina Applegate

Robert De Niro

Alicia Keys

Betty White

Selena Gomez

John Lennon
