NOA’s Reggie Fils-Aime has said there’s isn’t a need for new Nintendo console at this point in the game, and once the installed base for Wii reaches 45 million in the US, he’ll be more than pleased to chat about “next generation”.

Speaking with Kotaku after his talk during the BMO Capital Markets 18th Annual Digital Entertainment Conference in New York this week, Reggie showed a chart indicating Wii sold 23 percent faster than PS2 during the same amount of time. He also admitted sales have slowed a bit during Wii’s third year on the market, but you can’t argues with over 30 million units sitting in home across America.

“As we sit here today we’re saying the Wii has many, many more units to sell,” he said. “After we’ve reached an installed base of 45 million here in the US, we can have a conversation about the next generation.”

During his presentation at the conference, Reggie told attendees that the “holidays are more important to Nintendo than to other manufacturers” and the firm has a “distinct edge” when it comes to gift-giving due to brand recognition.

He also said DS and Wii were first and second place in the US with and installed base of 43.1 million and 30.4 million, respectively, Xbox 360 in third with 21.9 million, PSP next with an installed base of 17.7 million, and PS3 last with 13.5 million.
