Katamari creator Keita Takahashi has revealed the reasons why he left Namco Bandai earlier this year, saying he felt he “didn’t belong” at the publisher “any more.”
Takahashi left the company after 11 years back in September, where he worked on the Katamari series as well as PSN title Noby Noby Boy.
He’s now currently overseeing the re-design of a park in Nottingham, where he spoke to EG at GameCity.
“The reason why I quit Namco was because I started to feel like I didn’t belong there any more,” said Takahashi.
“The games I was making were not necessarily the best-selling ones. I realised Namco was, as a business, going down a bit.
“Also, my colleagues were leaving to do another project. I started to feel like I didn’t belong there any more.”
Takahashi hasn’t ruled out a return to developing games, though. But for right now, it’s on the backburner until he finishes his role re-developing a Nottingham park.
