The 10 Sexiest Nerds of the New Millennium

Julia Prescott

I like to call myself a bit of a nerd aficionado. My love for the bespectacled and generally nerdy gentleman has scoped as far back as I remember. That’s why I relish in the welcoming of newer additions to the nerd culture, as it simply expands a group of gent’s that will always be tops in my book.

In this post, I’ve rounded up some of the hottest, sweetest, brainiest, sexiest nerd men that have come out of the 2000’s. Enjoy, and don’t be ashamed if you find yourself daydreaming about one or two of them talking your ear off about Laws of Physics or what makes the “perfect” pair of eyeglasses.

1. Andy Samberg

It’s nearly impossible to tune into an episode of “Saturday Night Live” these days without falling over laughing at one of Sanberg’s trademark Digital Shorts. Sanberg proves that you don’t need to be ashamed of your weird sense of humor as a nerd, but to embrace it (and it definitely looks like it’s working out for one of NBC’s leading funny men.) He instantly wins the award for the most hilariously silly of the nerds.

2. Andrew Garfield

Andrew took the nerd world by storm most recently due to his starring role in David Fincher’s, “The Social Network.” Playing brainy and suave Eduardo Saverin, he proved to the world that you can be super smart, as well as super sleek in just the right array of stylish business suits. He instantly wins the award for the most fashion-forward of the nerds.

3. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been on the nerd scene for quite some time, due to recent roles in the indie hit, “500 Days of Summer” as well as his subdued, yet irresistibly sexy part in “Inception” he’s proved that he’s back and he’s here to stay. He wins the award for the most dashingly handsome of the nerds, while still maintaining that boyish charm.

4. Justin Long

I know what you’re thinking, “What would a nerd list be without the Mac guy?” Justin Long has proven that he’s so much more than just a super computer-type. Long is not only a talented leading man, but he’s proven his versatility by also being a tremendous comedic talent (his role in “Zack and Miri” literally steals the show) and just an all around laid back guy. He instantly wins the award for best nerd you can bring home to your Mom.

5. Rupert Grint

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had a bit of a crush on Ron Weasley. Think about it: he’s modest, nervous in front of women, and tremendously loyal toward his friends (also, when in the throes of danger he will most definitely step up to the plate in order to save the day.) If Rupert (who has grown into quite the dashing young man) is anything like his Harry Potter alter-ego, I would definitely ask him to be mine. He wins the award for best nerd you can have in the face of battle.

6. Demetri Martin

Most people don’t know this about Demetri, but he’s not only an accomplished stand-up comedian (with his own show, “Important Things with Demetri Martin” on Comedy Central) but he’s also a Yale graduate. Demetri’s approach to comedy can be best described as “calculated silliness,” which is certainly appropriate to his brainy comedic persona. He wins the award for best nerd you could giggle in the back of a library with.

7. Topher Grace

There’s something about Topher’s half-hesitation half-confidence that makes the perfect blend for a nerd you could joke around with and then a couple moments later look at each other with utmost seriousness. Topher is the best of both worlds, and if he’s anything like his character on “That ‘70s Show,” you know for a fact that the hijinks will never end. He wins the award for best nerd you could go on a road trip adventure with.

8. Jesse Eisenberg

Jesse Eisenberg represents the new wave of nerds (along with Andrew Garfield) who represent extreme braininess fused with a certain suaveness most full-grown men can’t even grasp. His versatility in playing both bleeding heart romantics (“Adventureland,” being the best example of this) as well as punk genius Mark Zuckerberg in “The Social Network” proves that he has plenty to offer this world, and more definitely to come. He wins the award for most sensitive, most surprising, most sexy nerd.

9. Zachary Levi

Zachary Levi is the kind of boy you can bring home to your mother. Seriously. His smile alone melts ice. His hair is a fortress of boy-like charm that just exudes from his scalp with an airy superhuman quality. You may know him as “Chuck” but I know him as “future boyfriend.” Now, if you would exclude me.... Zach wins the award for best nerd I would ever like to date (ever).

10. Michael Cera

Michael Cera has easily pushed his way into being the golden nerd boy of the new millennium. Whether he’s lusting after girls slightly out of his league, shredding on a mean electric guitar in “Scott Pilgrim v. The World,” or acting delightfully awkward, I couldn’t love him any more. He wins the award for best nerd you’d go on an awkward first date with, but quickly fall in love with him regardless.

Who is your favorite nerd?
