10 Most Awesome Pieces Of WOW Loot Ever

Tamar Love Grande

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know World of Warcraft Cataclysm was released today. In honor of this much-anticipated event, we thought we’d take a stroll down memory lane and think about the rarest, most awesome loot from levels 60 through 80. These weapons and mounts are useful, yes, but the true glory lies in the bragging rights.

10. Thori’dal, the Stars’ Fury

Thori’dal is super rare and does the most damage of any other range weapon at level 70, generating magical arrows when the bow string is drawn. It’s fricken fast and does a buttload of damage. Plus it has like, sweet hawks and crap on it. DOUBLE Hawks.

9. Swift Zulian Tiger

With only a .3% drop rate, the Swift Zulian Tiger is extremely rare. In Vanillla Wow, it took a 20-person raiding party to win this incredibly fast mount, which due to Cataclym’s release is no longer available. But the coolest thing about this mount is that this armored tiger looks like He-Man’s Battlecat, only not as wussy.

8. Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros

The dream of every Level 60 player, this extremely rare weapon was the most bad-ass two-handed hammer you could find. First you had to get the Eye of Sulfurus, and then all the mats to make the hammer, a feat in itself, and if that wasn’t enough, you had to find someone to make it for you. The stats are great, but the 279–333 fiery ball is AWESOME. Among the best balls in the game.

7. Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian

In the age of Vanilla WOW, when Naxxaramus was in Eastern Plaguelands, any caster would give his left one to get his hands on this staff, which is, of course, no longer available. Not only did this two-handed staff that have the highest added spell power at Level 60, but it also gave you a free ride to Karazhan. FREE!

6. The Twin Blades of Azzinoth

These warglaives were a rogue’s dream at Level 70. Combined, they did an incredible amount of damage. But the true bragging rights lie in the fact that you have to go through hell to get them—and the model looks dead lethal.

5. Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker

The best one-handed DPS/Tank weapon in Level 60, this blade was almost impossible to get. The stats are good, but the blast of lightening is awesome—it deals 300 of Nature damage and then jumps to additional nearby enemies, reducing the victim’s Nature resistance by 25. Oh yeah, and you're primary target is consumed by a cyclone. It's like your killing them with highlights from The Weather Channel.

4. Ashes of Al'ar (Phoenix Mount)

Mounts may not be particularly powerful, but they’re damned cool, especially a phoenix mount. These beasts are rare—only one or two people per server have them—but more than anything else, they give the rider awesome bragging rights. Imagine cruising up to some sad-sack player and “complimenting” him on his neat-o horse. HAHAHAHA!

3. Val'anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings

This very cool mace offers the highest level of healing at Level 80, making it the best one-handed healer weapon in the game. But more than anything else, the glowing healing bubble surrounding whoever you’re healing looks awesome.

2. Shadowmourne

This Legendary two-handed axe is the most damaging weapon at Level 80. Many people in arenas and PVP have screamed their lungs out facing this weapon. But bragging rights come from earning the weapon: You have to take a 25-person raid on a series of challenging quests, and Shadowmourne needs some extremely expensive mats.

1. Black Qiraji Bug Mount

To get this mount in Vanilla WOW, you had to get together a 40-person raid, complete a series of quests, collect insane mats, go through one extremely long quest-chain, and then make the Scepter of Shifting Sands, which allowed you to bang the gong that opened the gates of Ahn'Qiraj. At that point, everyone on the server could start raiding the Zone, but only the person who banged the gong got the mount—and the title Scarab Lord.
