We're midway though Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights, but if you aren't Jewish, you've probably never tried any Hanukkah activities. But you can change that NOW. Hanukkah is a festival, after all - it might be fun. No sitting on a fat bearded guy's lap and asking for favors required.
Let us know your favorite activity in the comments!
Light A Menorah
This is an easy tradition to try, since it's no more difficult than lighting a candle. There's a specific order, so don't mess it up!
Spin A Dreidel
It's a 4 sided top used for a Hanukkah gambling game. It's the Jewish version of dice. Become a Hebrew Hustla'!
Eat Latkes
Delicious fried potato pancakes, traditionally enjoyed around Hanukkah. If you are Irish AND Jewish, these are prefect.
Give Gifts
How about you pick out something nice for your family? Nothing too big, mind you...
Get Gifts
If you don't get Santa, you better get a sweet Hanukkah gift to make up for it.
Get Gelt
"Gelt" literally means money in Hebrew, but if you're a Jewish kid, don't expect a bag of gold coins. Do your parents look like they are made of money? No, Hanukkah gelt is coins of chocolate. Not quite as valuable as real gold, but far more delicious.
Tell Hanukkah Stories
Long story short: Jews wanted to light their temple. They only had enough oil for one night, but miraculously, the oil kept on burning for 8 nights, the length of time it took to make more consecrated olive oil. And that's how Hanukkah was born. Try sharing your favorite story about God making oil last longer than it usually does.
