Microsoft’s head of Interactive Entertainment Business, Dennis Durkin, has said half of Microsoft’s 25 million Xbox Live members are have Gold subscriptions.
Speaking during the Credit Suisse Annual Technology Conference yesterday, Durkin said Gold subs are a “very large business” for the company and its partners, especially considering a sub is around $60 a year.
“This is a great opportunity for our media partners to stay connected with their customers and to sell them goods that they care about in their home,” he said. “Whether that’s game add-ons, movies, music, or clothing for their avatars, this is a very big business.”
So, breaking it down, half of 25 million is 12.5 million. Multiply that by $60 and you have $750 million, which is $god, really.
Durkin went on to quote stats from November, which claimed Gold subs spent more than three hours a day using Xbox Live, with 40 percent of said time spent on non-gaming applications.
