Guillermo del Toro’s Insane trilogy to include developers’ “dream features”

THQ’s Danny Bilson has told Kotaku that Guillermo del Toro demanded at least one “dream feature” from development staff for his horror action-adventure trilogy Insane.

Reportedly, del Toro delivered an ultimatum to his collaborators at THQ, the team set to deliver the film director’s project.

“At the next meeting I want all of you to come to the meeting with one dream feature, one thing you’ve always wanted in a game,” he said. “… or don’t come to the meeting.”

Harsh, but in an industry where big budget productions often require designers to stifle their wild and crazy ideas in favour of the safe option, del Toro’s approach may well win a few heart’s.

Bilson volunteered his feature idea – variable difficulty.

“Mine’s Autotuning,” he said. “You can’t care about the story if you choke off halfway through or you get sick of it or fatigued or whatever. So the game will have the coolest [artificial intelligence]-based auto-tuning where it’s challenging for everybody.”

Insane’s first instalment is due in 2013, with the full franchise (including a possible movie) expected to take up to ten years.
