Ex-id and Ion Storm co-founder John Romero is no longer at Slipgate Ironworks, a company he helped form in 2005, and is reportedly working with business partner Tom Hall on a social network game called Loot Drop.

Confirming Romero’s departure  to BigDownload, Gazillion Entertainment said he left the firm late last year.

The spokesperson also told the site the MMORPG Romero was working on was “changed and shifted out to later in the pipeline,” and will be made into a browser-based game which is more in line with Gazillion’s new focus.

“We have not announced a release date for this title and John was not involved with the new plans,” said the Gazillion rep.

Back in April 2010, Romero was looking for Unreal 3 coders for his Gazillion project, after the firm faced a round of lay-offs six months prior to the job listing.

Gazillion failed to provide more details on the Slipgate project, or confirm a release window.
