Ubisoft has claimed to be Kinect’s number one third-party publisher in 2010, something the company aspired to accomplish from the very beginning.
According to Laurent Detoc, president of Ubisoft North America, with the firm’s various offerings for Kinect, it believes it has “something for everyone”.
“We believed in the potential of Kinect from the start and we set out to be the leading third-party publisher,” he said. “It worked. But this is only the beginning for us. We’ll be bringing some of the industry’s most innovative offerings to Kinect soon, starting with Michael Jackson The Experience, Child of Eden and others.
“We will have something for everyone.”
Back in October, Ubisoft said it’s offerings were “the most natural games for a control system like Kinect”.
“We like the Move, we had two launch titles on Move — I don’t know how many third-party publishers had more than two,” said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing. “So the fact is: we are supporting the Move system; but the Kinect system is something we’ve been working on for so much longer. Ubisoft, as a company, is of course very interested in the Move. A lot of the same mechanics occur that are on the Wii. We were there on the Wii, and a lot of the reason we were there is because we had dev kits early.
“We believed in it early. We got behind it early.”
Kinect titles from Ubisoft in 2010 were Fighters Uncaged, MotionSports, and Your Shape: Fitness Evolved.
In 2001, the publisher expects to release Michael Jackson The Experience on April 12, and Child of Eden – which doesn’t have a release date at present. Likely, more Kinect titles from the firm will be announced as the year progresses.
