4Gamer has posted an interview with From Software’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Dark Souls and while it touches on things already known about the game such as the seemless world, he also chatted about online, and why a demo isn’t planned.
According to Miyazaki, the map in the game will contain both Dark and High Fantasy areas, as well as hell, and other maps. The development team is also working on helping players remember the map in their head so that when playing the game 60 or so hours, it will be easy to remember the areas. This is in contrast to Demon Soul’s 30 or 40 hour play time.
The game also has close to 100 different enemy types, an “appropriate quantity of weapons,” an armor, new magic, and the previously mentioned ability to turn your character into objects.
Weapons will see changes in speed and recovery time and a fortification system has been put in place for weapons as well.
Online play will consist of a “shared play experience, with players having a “gradual effects on one another.” Miyazaki said the goal of the system is to bring back the feeling of playing the old Dragon Quest games, where folks could share information and struggle together. This will also allow “mutual role playing,” where both cooperative and competitive becomes an extension of the individual’s RPG experience.
