Before we get to the question at hand, let's go back a little in time and start from the beginning.
Sexy Indonesian pop star Nazril "Ariel" Irham gets two celebrity girlfriends to come over and make a sex tape with him - in the privacy of his own home. What Indonesian pop star hasn't done something like this? Those crazy Indonesian pop stars!
In America a sex tape would get you a book deal, TV interviews and a spot on Dancing With The Stars.
Not in Indonesia. To say that Indonesia is a predominantly Muslim nation is an understatement. Though Indonesia is technically a secular country with 237 million citizens, it contains more Muslims than any other country in the world, and many observant Muslims don't like porn.
Fans defended Ariel's right to make a tape like this in the privacy of his own home, but Muslim conservatives insist that his actions had contributed to the country's moral decline. They seem to think that Ariel's fans are going to go out and start making sex tapes of their own now that the singer has made it look so sexy and cool.
And the government agreed, giving Ariel 3 1/2 years in jail and a $25,000 fine as punishment for not doing more to prevent the wide spread distribution of the tapes that were (as the singer claims) stolen and then posted online without his knowledge. (Yeah, right!)
A 33-year-old Indonesian pharmacist (and I'm guessing Muslim) told press, "To me, pornography is even more dangerous than drugs. Just think of the school boys watching those videos," she said. "Next thing you know, they'll be imagining their female teachers naked!"
What the what? I guess I'm just use to living in America where we assume all teen boys are imagining their teachers naked. What do you think about this? Is porn more dangerous than drugs to the minds of young men? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
