The tsunami and earthquake really bummed out a lot of people who work in the gaming industry. They couldn't stop thinking of all their friends and coworkers in Japan... they realized that they had to do something to help!
"Japan has made immeasurable contributions to gaming, from revitalizing the industry after the collapse in 1984, to creating some of the most enduring characters and series," IGN editor Cam Shea told the press. "The face of modern video games would be unrecognizable without Japanese designers and companies."

People who like to play "EVE Online" can make donations in the form of in-game currency. The company will then turn that currency into real cash money that will go to help victims in Japan. So cool!
Lonely single women all over Facebook were excited to hear that games like "FarmVille" and "CityVille," are offering special crops that gamers will only be able to purchase with donations.
And, as you would totally expect... gaming corporations are digging deep and making huge donations. Companies like Nintendo, Sony, Konami, Sega and Bandai are all giving in excess of 100 million yen ($1.286 million) to the relief effort.
And it's not just big business that is getting in on the action guys... individual gamers are doing what they can too!

GET THIS! It has been signed by gaming legends like composer Koji Kondo, voice of Mario Charles Martinet, Zelda director Eiji Aonuma and Nintendo guru Shigeru Miyamoto.
The DS belong to an associate editor at Game Informer named Meagan Marie who said, "I spent the entire weekend brainstorming ways to utilize my skills to raise money for relief in Japan. My original idea was to create a custom Munny to sell on eBay, but time unfortunately won’t allow for that. After much thought, I’ve decided to part ways with my prized keepsake, an autographed Nintendo DS signed by some of the biggest names in gaming."
