Telltale has said the events taking place in Jurassic Park will overlap the first film and extend “beyond them, to the days and nights immediately following the collapse of the park.”
Speaking in an interview with Gamespot, the games designer and writer Joe Pinney said the story was given the green-light Universal, thus allowing the developer to “follow the new story to its natural conclusions.”
“We’re fans like they are, and we all really want the new stuff to be grounded in the events, locations, and tone of the first film, so we’re all on the same page there,” he said. “It helps that the folks at Universal are terrific collaborators, and gamers to boot.
“One of our main characters had a bit part in the first film, and we’ll learn a lot more about him. We’ll have some nods to and mentions of the film characters. Other than that, it’s a new cast–plus, of course, the dinosaurs return. It’s a new blend of exploration, action, and adventure, very cinematic and intuitive, which we think really suits the story. We’re hoping to hook not only fans of Jurassic Park, but anyone who enjoys an exciting adventure.”
According to Pinney, players will revisit familiar locations, as well as discover new areas of Isla Nublar as the game progresses. The storyline, however, will determine where you go to on the map, because with all those dinosaurs roaming around out there, you can’t go running around willy-nilly.
Dinosaurs familiar to laypersons and fans of the movie will be present, so will “some more obscure critters,” as well as a “mysterious new threat.” Telltale even designed the creature’s movements based on real-life animals and picked a palaeontologists brain to determine how dinosaurs may have behaved back in pre-historic times.
Jurassic Park, which will be based on Steve Spielberg’s films, is set for release in April for Mac and PC.
