Ubisoft: The core and “broader audiences will come quickly to the new 3DS”

By Stephany Nunneley

Murray Pannell, Ubisoft’s UK marketing manager, is of the belief that 3DS launch will bring casual gamers into the fold with the core.

Speaking with MCV, Pannell said hardcore gamers are usually the early adopters of new hardware, and while 3DS will see its fair share, he expects the casuals to adopt it as well.

“When you consider that millions of consumers have already bought into the DS console family, it’s not difficult to believe that the broader audiences will come quickly to the new 3DS,” he said. “As such, our PR and marketing approach will reflect the fact that we need to cater for all audiences – both core and mainstream.”

Pannell is also confident Nintendo will keep its promise to support third-party developers with 3DS than it has previously.

“There is always an expectation that first party will spend large, but in the case of 3DS I genuinely believe that Nintendo will be focusing on ensuring that the overall 3DS platform is a success,” he said. “So assuming that does happen, then it makes the job of attaching more of our games to the install base so much easier.”

Ubisoft launch titles for 3DS are: Asphalt 3D, Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, and Rayman 3D.
