Screen Digest has predicted big numbers for Nintendo’s latest handheld, but warns it won’t outsell the other members of the DS family.
Whilst 11.6 million of anything should be considered a lot, a report by Screen Digest highlights that first year DS sales – a culmination of the original DS, DS Lite and DSi – totalled 13.1m.
The report predicted that the 3DS will be outpaced by DS’s historical success throughout the first four years of its life, culminating in a total of 69.9m 3DS units by the end of 2014.
DS had sold 90.9m by the same stage in its lifecycle.
Screen Digest pointed at the plethora of mobile devices now available, such as iPods, smart phones and tablet computers, as the reason 3DS will fail to outsell it’s predecessor, which had racked up worldwide sales of 136 million units by the end of 2010.
Thanks, MCV.
