The Japanese love their mascots as much as the rest of us, but their mascots are just so much cooler. Leave it to the Japanese to come up with dudes who shoot curry cheese lasers or banana's from their fingers!
Kikkoman
Regulars on the Japanese message board 2-Channel came up with a joke superhero, named after Kikkoman sauce, who fights for justice against evil foreign sauces. The flash video for 'Kikkoman' is very popular, even among those who have no idea what's going on in it.
Cheese Curry Cup Noodle Mascot
This cheese-faced man mascot shoots curry lasers from his fingers... do I really need to go on?
NHK TV's Domo Mascot
Domo is the official mascot of Japan's NHK TV station who lives in an underground cave... I wonder what kind of TV reception he gets down there in that underground cave? Domo is described as "a strange creature that hatched from an egg." His favorite food is Japanese-style meat and potato stew, and he really hates apples because of something in his DNA. He even has his own comic book.
Sento-kun, City of Nara Mascot
The new mascot for the Japanese city of Nara was chosen by the city office to inherit their mission, and as a "personification of the energy." The happy young boy has the antlers of a deer, an animal that has long been regarded as a heavenly protector of the city. I was actually in Nara back in January and the city is literally crawling with hundreds if not thousands of free-roaming deer that come right up to you like dogs, begging for treats and pets.
Meg Milk Talking Cow Mascot
Meg milk in Japan has a fluffy talking cow mascot that likes to interrupt people when they're gettin' their vitamin D on.
Japanese Blood mascot
Japan's most well-known blood donation mascot is Kenketsu-chan or "blood donation girl." Makes me wonder how many other blood donation mascots they have running around Japan.
She's a Cute little pixie with big shiny drops of blood for ears.
Kenketsu-chan is the official blood donation mascot of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. She even has her own website.
Dole Bananaman
A series of crazy ads for Dole bananas airing in Japan shows a creepy lookin' Banana Man who grows CGI bananas out his head and hands and can shoot banana's at people passing by.
Causing Japanese banana consumption to surge, despite high import tariffs. Go figure!
