It’s no big secret that guys and girls don’t speak the same language. Especially in stuff like The Lizzie Maguire Movie. (Remember how hot Italian Paolo was? Where is that guy?!) When it comes to communication between the sexes, texting is particularly evil. Guys may claim to mean exactly what they say, but add in a thin layer of technology, and you’ll soon discover that HTML isn’t the only code in play.
"Sup?"
Could mean “what’s up,” or could mean “I want to talk to you, but I have nothing to say, so I’m hoping you’ll have the balls to drive this conversation.” Maybe you passed him in the hallway a moment earlier, but he was “too busy” checking his phone. For your number. To text you “sup?”
"How was your day?"
Okay, maybe you’re dating this guy. And you told him you had this big thing due in class today. So, he’s showing you he cares. But not in a creepy, overbearing way –it’s not like he’s calling you to discuss your day. He cares just enough to want to hear whatever you feel like typing before your thumbs wear out.
"My friends and I are going to this bar. You should come."
He has plans with or without you; your response totally won’t impact how awesome his night is. And he’s one of those macho, guys’ guys who tells b*tches what to do. Via text.
"Happy Thanksgiving!"
It’s been a while since you guys hooked up. He needed an excuse to get back in.
"Happy Arbor Day!"
He’s really, really into trees.
"Please forgive of"
This guy got drunk and did something stupid. Probably cheated on you. And then did something stupid again when he didn’t check if his iPhone autocorrected his apology from “me” to “of.” Shows how much he cares, huh?
"Haha."
Okay – maybe you shouldn’t have sent back that fourth text volley in response to him saying he’s swamped with work. He’s polite, but done with this conversation.
And of course…
Where are you?
If sent between the hours of 12pm-8pm: he’s curious as to how you spend your time. Wants to get to know you better.
If sent between the hours of 8pm-11pm: he’d like to meet up, hang out socially, get to know your friends better.
If sent between the hours of 11pm-12am: he’s drunk, lost you and your friends somewhere.
If sent between the hours of 12am-6am: he thinks he’s found the classy way to ask for a booty call. Listen to that Lady Antebellum song for more info.
If sent between the hours of 6am-12pm: he wants to grab brunch? I don’t know. Who does that?
Guys, what do you think? Are we right? Girls, have you cracked the code to any other texts you’d like to share? Let us know in the comment!
