Iwata wishes Nintendo had marketed Wii better

By Stephany Nunneley

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has expressed regret over not marketing Wii as well as it should have from the beginning.

According to Iwata, the firm doesn’t plan on making the same mistakes with 3DS or future consoles and plans to better market its current console better in the future.

“I now regret that we didn’t tie up with someone outside the company to market the Wii,” he told investors and analysts during a recent conference, reports Reuters.

“If we had done that, the fate of the Wii might have been different.

“Now I am aware that we should not rely too much on ourselves. You will see what I mean by this when we market the 3DS and the Wii in the future.”

Iwata also said alliances with other companies may be necessary, after reporting the firm’s second straight fall in annual profit. Iwata also admitted during the conference the firm’s plans to launch a successor to Wii during the firm’s FY 2012, which means it would hit the market sometime after April 2012.

Thanks, MTV.
