Shigeru Miyamoto has said there’s definitely still room for home consoles to have a unique feel around it.

He told The Telegraph that Nintendo was looking to go beyond what was possible with Wii with its predecessor, codenamed Project Cafe.

“There’s definitely space for uniqueness in a home console,” he said. “As you know the Wii is family orientated, played in the living room of the household. We’re hoping to evolve that, there’s a variety of options we can think of.”

On the new console itself, Miyamoto wouldn’t drop too much info on it.

“Even when the Wii launched, we were developing new hardware. The creation of devices is quite speedy nowadays, and we’re always working on new ideas.”

Project Cafe will launch at some point in 2012, with an unveil to come at E3 in Los Angeles next month.
