It’s summertime and that means it’s time to pack up the minivan and head out on a family road trip. Spending so much time with your parents can be brutal, but whether you’re on your way to Disney World or Detroit, you can break up the long stretches in the car by checking out these ten weird roadside attractions.
10. World’s Largest Thermometer – Baker, California
No matter which direction you’re driving in from, one thing’s for certain – the road to Vegas is super boring – and super hot. In fact, if you take a pit stop in Baker, California, you can see how hot it really is. Baker is home to the World’s Largest Thermometer. But do you really need to know if the temperature has gone from scorching to caliente? They also have great diner foods and a fun gift shop.
9. Foamhenge – Natural Bridge, Virginia
So what if you couldn’t make it to the real Stonehenge in England this summer – you can still check out the second best thing: Foamhenge in Natural Bridge, Virginia. Yes, you guessed right…it’s an entire mini-replica of the famous British monument made out of Styrofoam. Hope it doesn't get too windy there or this sucker is gonna blow away.
8. World’s Largest Chair - Anniston, Alabama
What started out as an ad for a furniture store is now the biggest attraction in Anniston, Alabama. At a height of 33-feet, it might be hard to take a seat.
7. The Mystery Spot - Santa Cruz, California
If you find yourself driving up the west coast stop in Santa Cruz, and hit up the Mystery Spot. The spot opened back in 1940 and it is rumored that aliens buried their space ship under it, causing crazy gravity-defying things to occur... or maybe the whole thing is just build at an angle? I mean, since the US government hasn't set up a perimeter to keep tourists out, I'm guessing it's nothing truly super natural but more of a fun place to hit the toilets and have a little fun before packing back into the car.
6. Devil’s Rope Museum – McLean, Texas
If you’re really into barbed wire than the Devil’s Rope Museum in McLean, Texas, is for you. No seriously, it’s an entire museum devoted to wire. We can’t make this up if we tried.
5. The Museum of Bad Art – Dedham, Massachusetts
Why travel all the way to Florence, Italy, or Paris, France, to see the world’s greatest pieces of art when the Museum of Bad Art in Dedham, Massachusetts, is right here in the United States. Your family will appreciate these artists’ attempts to at being the next PicASSo.
4. World’s Largest Chest of Drawers – High Point, North Carolina
You know your town isn’t very exciting when the most interesting thing in it is a chest of drawers, which represents it’s once booming furniture industry. At almost 80 feet high, it would be a shame if your family just drove by without stopping to take a picture. Most girls just dream of a walk-in closet... How about a live-in dresser!

It’s a bird, it’s a plane…it’s a giant statue of the man of steel. Back in 1986, the town of Metropolis, Illinois, built a 15-foot statue of Superman. So put on your red cape, and bust out the camera – its photo opt time.
1. World’s Largest Ball of Twine - Darwin, Minnesota
Francis A. Johnson of Darwin, Minnesota, made the history books when he created the world’s largest ball of twine. He started it in 1950 and stopped when it got to be 12-feet tall and more than 10,400 pounds. It’s now protected and visitors can come check it out. No cats allowed!
