In an era of tweets and YouTube and gogurt, it’s hard to remember that not everything is better when it’s short. Sometimes, things are amazing by LASTING A LONG TIME. Here are nine things that remind us that ridiculously long lasting can be awesome.
This light bulb
I got an idea!
What’s so special about this light bulb? Well, for one thing, it hangs in a fire station, so it illuminates HEROES. Oh, it’s also been on since 1901. Low wattage, a perfect vacuum seal, and almost never being turned off have kept this bulb burning since before airplanes were invented. AIRPLANES! Meanwhile, 100 years of technology advancement and my Xbox dies every few months…
Honey
Some people call their girlfriends this. I don’t know why.
Besides being delicious bee vomit, if properly stored, honey can go without spoiling for hundreds or even thousands of years. Honey has been found in ancient Egyptian tombs! I wouldn’t eat it though. You probably turn into a mummy.
Chicken fights on 'Family Guy'
On a show known for non-plot-related side stories, this one is the ultimate. When the chicken shows up, the battles can last 1/4 of the episode. It’s one of those things Seth MacFarlane is weirdly passionate about. Like musical numbers or non-human talking animal best friends.
This Tree
Hehe. Wood.
Methuselah the Great Basin Bristlecone Pine tree lives in a secret location in California, where it’s been hanging out for over 4800 years! This tree was around since before the Roman empire. That is freakin’ OLD.
Stride Gum
Yes, Stride is paying us to write this here (not in gum, because our accountant guy nixed it), but Stride really is the world’s longest lasting gum. In this economy, who really has time for other, wasteful gums? NO ONE! Besides, you’ll want fresh breath before you try the next one.
This kiss
They do it for the fans. (Get it?)
Back in September, two college guys from New Jersey with a few extra days on their hands decided to break the world record for kissing. Without sitting down or taking a break, Matty Daley and Bobby Canciello smooched for a face-numbing 33 hours, while live steaming it on the internet. Their kiss lasted longer than most of my relationships.
This fish
This isn’t actually the fish, but I heard they look VERY SIMILAR.
Even the FISH live a long time in Japan! Supposedly the oldest Koi Fish ever, Hanko, died in 1976 and the ripe old age of 226! That means that Hanko was born when America was still an English colony.
This Song
This image comes up when you google the song. I don’t know why.
The song “Longplayer” started streaming online on December 31st, 1999, so already it’s a very long song. But over ten years of music is almost nothing, since the song is supposed to last 1000 years. I wonder if I have room for it on my iPod.
This Video
Have a free 785 minutes? Then sit back and enjoy this video. It’s the longest YouTube video in the world! It took over 4 hours to load, and currently has over 1.3 million views. I wonder how many people watched it all the way though? And how many of THOSE people have lives?
What else is better when it’s ridiculously long lasting? Let us know in the comments!
