Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg has defended the company’s decision to not show the full feature list for Call of Duty: Elite so far.
Speaking to Gamasutra, Hirshberg said that the lack of a reveal for everything so far is due to most of its features being included into Modern Warfare 3. Its multiplayer is yet to be fully unveiled, but that’ll likely happen in its usual September timeslot.
“I’m not sure that there was any way we could have messaged it any better and not gotten that response from that portion of the audience,” he said, referring to the first response of the unveil of the premium service.
“But I will say this. We were not ready to reveal the entire feature set of the service because a lot of it is embedded into Modern Warfare 3…So what we revealed was incomplete and we did create some confusion.”
Hirshberg continued: “We’re not ready to reveal everything yet. We’re going to have a better service at launch because we’re going to be able to polish it and refine it through the beta. I think we made the right choice.”
Speaking about the massive MW3 leak before the game’s first official showing, Hirshberg said Activision needed to keep a cool head about it.
“We got a lot of props and a lot of pleasantly surprised people in our reaction to that. People assumed that we would go silverback gorilla crazy, and we didn’t.”
Call of Duty: Elite launches alongside Modern Warfare 3 on November 8, with a beta for the latter beginning next month.
