SEGA Hacked: Players Info STOLEN!!!

C.J. Arabia

If you tried to log onto SegaPass this weekend you may have noticed something...

(source)

As explained on their website, "Some of you may have noticed that the SEGA Pass system has been offline since Thursday 16 June." Yeah, no duh! We noticed.

(source)

Turns out that SEGA is just the latest online network to be hackity-hack-hacked. The names, email, birthdays and encrypted passwords of more than 1.3 million users were accessed by hackers as revealed by SEGA over the weekend.

(source)

The good news is that SEGA uses an outside company to handle their payments, so thankfully no credit card or bank info was stolen this time. However, what do you use to sign into Facebook? Your email and a password? And is that password the same password that you use for everything? These hackers could log into any and all of your online accounts that you use your email and that password to log into.

So Sega and its users are just the latest group to fall prey to hackers. We've seen Nintendo, Sony and even the CIA get taken down by hackers...

(source)

But LulzSec, a group of hackers who are supposed to responsible for those attacks on Nintendo, Sony & yes even the CIA has thrown down! Turns out that they are fans of DreamCast and tweeted this message to Sega.

(source)

So what does this all mean? Are the guys at LulzSec saying they didn't do it? Is there a cyber-hacker-war brewing? Or are they just trying to throw every off their track? I mean it's possible that they are responsible for the Sega hack and are just trying to confuse people.

(source)

I want to believe that they really didn't do this and that they are really going to go after these hackers.

(source)

Just remember that as long as there are hackers NO online information is truly safe. That's why it's important to keep track of what's going on with your credit cards and avoid entering financial information into websites unless absolutely necessary. Also STOP USING THE SAME PASSWORD FOR EVERYTHING PEOPLE!

Were you affected by the SEGA hack? What do you think of LulzSec and their A-team style vow of revenge? Let's discuss.
