Take-Two isn’t interested in “beating” a franchise “to death” with yearly releases

Take-Two COO Karl Slatoff has said the firm isn’t too concerned with pushing out yearly franchises.

Speaking in an interview with VentureBeat, Slatoff said T2 wants to take the time to create something “notably and meaningfully different,” with each franchise release.

“Every time that we come out with a new release, we think it’s for a AAA title, the highest quality,” he said. “We are trying to break new ground every time we come up with something. It’s really hard to do that every single year. And I do believe you can have success for a period of time. But as far as what is the best way to manage a brand franchise so you’ve got longevity? As you move from generation to generation, that remains to be seen.

“We don’t subscribe to that philosophy of bringing a franchise out every single year.We think it takes a little bit more time to do something that is notably and meaningfully different each time you come out with a new title within a franchise. And for us, it is about creating long-term value by creating franchises. It’s not just about getting excited about one franchise and beating it to death until it dies and going on to the next.

“We really think so much goes into doing this that we act like we are managing a long-term brand. That’s how we approach it.”

Slatoff goes on to say that the firm tends to “work from game to game,” and that it considers a lot if different factors before releasing a game sequel.

The latest game from the firm is the Rockstar/Team Bondi venture L.A. Noire.
