Yu Suzuki, one of the most legendary video game designers of all-time, has announced that he will be leaving Sega in September after a 28-year career with the company.
Suzuki is not retiring, but will rather be focusing on his own studio, YS NET.
“With the new company, I’ve been doing pretty much what I personally want to do myself,” said Suzuki, speaking to Gamasutra.
He will also become an advisor at Sega. Suzuki is currently working on a Kinect-based fighting game.
Suzuki was often called Sega’s response to Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto back in the Sega versus Nintendo console wars.
He was involved in the creation of Out Run, After Burner II, Virtua Fighter, Daytona USA, Virtua Cop, and Shenmue.
