Reports that Microsoft is set to launch a brand new Xbox Music service are “inaccurate,” the company has told VG247.
It comes as Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer apparently said yesterday at a partners event that it was to launch the new service this fall with 11 million tracks and Kinect support.
Microsoft says it’s a case of crossed wires, however, insisting that Ballmer actually meant the current Zune Music and the introduction of voice search with Bing.
“Reports that Microsoft is launching a new music service on Xbox this fall are inaccurate,” the company told VG247 in a statement.
“A recent demonstration of upcoming Xbox features showcased what we will deliver later this fall on Xbox, including voice search with Bing on Xbox to locate and access entertainment content on the console. This includes Zune music which has a catalog of more than 11 million tracks.”
And that’s that. Go listen to some Imogen Heap on Zune Music instead.
