Despite yesterday’s announcement of Pokemon Say Tap for iDevices and Android, Nintendo is sticking to its guns when it comes to not releasing its IPs on mobile devices.
According to a report on Bloomberg, the decision to release the Pokemon title on a non-Nintendo device was not made by Nintendo but by The Pokmon Company.
Nintendo’s PR head Yasuhiro Minagawa told the financial site The Pokmon Company is a separate company from Nintendo, which owns a 32 percent stake in the firm and partial ownership of the Pokemon trademark.
While it has no decision in the matter, Minagawa said “there is no change, and no plans for a change in the future,” regarding Nintendo’s stance on releasing its owned IPs on a competing device.
Bloomberg also reported that following the news of the new Pokemon app, stock in Nintendo rose 4.9 percent above the prior day; however, after Minagawa’s comments, stock fell 1.2 percent above the prior day.
Thanks, Andirasang.
