PC Gamer has tested its Steam keys attached to EA games to see if the games are re-downloadable through EA’s new digital service ,Origin. As you may have already guessed, some of the keys worked.
According to the site, it successfully redeemed keys for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, Dead Space 2, Alice: Madness Returns and Dragon Age 2.
It said with DA2, after the key was validated throuogh Origin, it was able to launch the Steam version of the game from the Origin client. It also apparently showed the Steam “overlay and chat functions.”
Some of the keys tried didn’t work. Mass Effect was just one such example.
What this means, and this is good news, is that it’s possible to export some of your EA games from Steam into Origin, which considering EA distributed the keys in the first place – it’s not that big of a stretch.
Origin auto-detects EA games installed on PC, so it is quite possible future updates could allow it to detect games located in the Steam library.
